Sunday Night Races 5-11-25
We started with light wind, a lot of motor boat chop, and a major wind shift necessitating a course change. We got in 4 windward-leeward races and the kids did alright!
The takeaways from tonight:
- Go for speed over pointing: Boats that were pinched were stopped by the chop so in those conditions, ease off a hair and go for speed over pointing. You need momentum to power through the waves.
- Penalties are a problem: There were a lot of penalties but not a lot of penalty turns. Make it your goal to run a clean race. Be aggressive but sail penalty-free. We are looking at how to enforce penalty turns.
- Stay in clean air: Start in clean air to keep momentum. You need momentum to steer. Boats sailing in a Pack move slower than a free sailing boat.
