KidShip Policies


Cancellation / Rescheduling Policy:

  • Before April 1st:
    • A full, 100% credit OR;
    • A 90% refund
  • After April 1st and 30 days before the original start date of a registered session:
    • A 75% credit OR;
    • A 50% refund
  • 14-29 days before the original start date of a registered session:
    • A 50% Credit
    • No refund
  • LESS than 14 days before the original start date of a registered session:
    • No refund, no credit

 

Cancellation by the Student:

  • Requests for cancellation must be submitted electronically using the email on file. Cancellations will not be provided over the phone. If you need to cancel for any reason, please email KidShip@AnnapolisSailing.com
  • KidShip does NOT offer a prorated amount for partial attendance or missed days of camp.
  • Exceptions to the cancellation policy will not be given for any reason including but not limited to: illness, injury, or vacation.

Cancellation by the School:

  • If minimum enrollment is not met or we incur staffing issues and KidShip needs to cancel a camp, you will be notified one week before the camp begins. Families can register for an available camp (payments will transfer to the new camp) or request a refund.

Additional Policies:


Waitlist:

  • Credit card information is required to hold your spot on the waitlist.
  • If someone on a waitlisted program cancels their registration, the first person on the waitlist will receive a call and a text message asking if they would like to join the program. The wait-listed customer has 24 hours to respond to our offer to join the class. If no response is received within 24 hours or if the participant chooses not to take the spot, the next waitlisted participant is called, until the spot is filled.

AfterCare:

  • A camper who is not picked up within 15 minutes of their camp session ending will be automatically enrolled in AfterCare and charged the drop-in rate. Which will run until 5:00 pm.
  • Pre-paid aftercare rate: $20/hour OR $150 for the week ($120 for Holiday Week)
  • Drop-in aftercare rate: $25/hour
  • For parents/guardians who are taking an adult sailing course and whose children are taking a KidShip course, AfterCare is offered free of charge until the adult sailing course ends.
  • We cannot accommodate late pick-ups after 5:00 pm.

Swim Test & Water Safety:

  • ALL campers must take a swim test before any on-the-water activities. This test will involve a 20-yard swim and treading water while wearing a PFD. Campers will swim out to the instructor, take their life jacket off while treading water, and put it back on before swimming back to the dock.
  • Campers who do not have proper closed-toe shoes will not be allowed to participate in activities.
  • ALL campers are required to wear a PFD when on or near water. This includes on the docks, on the boats, and during beach time if the camper wishes to approach or swim in the water.

Weather Policies:

  • Campers will sail in safe inclement weather such as rain.
  • Activities should be suspended immediately upon the first sound of thunder or the sight of lightning.
  • All activities will be suspended until 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder or sight of lightning. This 30-minute clock restarts for each thunder or lightning flash detected.
  • In case of hazardous conditions such as thunderstorms or excessive wind, we will have on-shore, sailing-related activities for campers to participate in.
  • Parents and guardians are encouraged to use their discretion in allowing their child(ren) to participate under questionable weather-related conditions. When in doubt, sit it out.
  • Our youngest campers adhere to a strict weather safety protocol. While older campers may still be able to sail in certain conditions, there may be times when younger campers are unable to do so due to inclement weather. The safety and well-being of our campers is always our top priority.

Medications:

  • Medications must be picked up on the last day of camp at the end of the day.
  • It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to pick up medications in a timely manner.
  • Medications must be picked up from the Reception office on the ground floor of the main School building.
  • Medications not picked up within one week of the last day of camp will be destroyed and/or properly disposed of.

Forms:

Camper forms must be submitted as hard copies on the first day of camp each week. We do not accept digital versions. Forms must be printed and handed in on the morning of the first day of camp for your child to participate. Campers without the required forms may not be able to attend that day.


Additional Camp Policies:

  • Every child attending KidShip must be signed in and signed out by a parent/guardian or designated adult each day.
    If the accompanying adult is not the child’s parent or legal guardian, he or she must submit the Camper Pick-up Authorization Form.
  • Willingness to learn and participate is mandatory. Any sailor who refuses to participate will be asked to leave the class and their parent will be called to take them home for the remainder of the day. In the case of a repeated offense or at the discretion of the Director on the first offense, the sailor will be asked not to return and no refund will be given.
  • Inaccurate or missing information in your child’s registration may result in your removal from the program without a refund.
  • No camp on Thursday, July 4th due to the holiday

KidShip FAQs

Below you will find some helpful information to prepare for a week of sailing fun for your KidShip Camper.

1. Where is KidShip Sailing Camp Located?

KidShip course location: Annapolis Sailing School’s marina facility is off Edgewood Road at 7001 Bembe Beach Road at the dead end. Call 410-267-7205 if you need directions.

2. What are the KidShip Camp Hours?

KidShip camp hours are from:

9 am to 12 pm for Half-Day L’il Sailors
9 am to 3 pm for all full-day courses

All full-day courses start at 9 am and end at 3 pm

3. Does my child need to be signed in/out of camp every day?

Yes. Every child attending KidShip must be signed in and signed out by a parent or designated adult each day. If the accompanying adult is not a parent of the child, he or she must have a note of authorization from the parent.

4. What is the earliest I can drop my child off at camp?

Sign-in on the first day should be no earlier than 8:30 am for all campers. After the first day, sign in should be no earlier than 8:45 am for both full-day campers and for Half-Day Li’l Sailors.

5. What should I do if I need to pick up or drop off my child(ren) outside of the scheduled camp hours?

PLEASE notify the KidShip Director if you need to drop children off early or pick them up later than scheduled hours

6. Does KidShip offer extended care for the campers?

Extended care is available for full-day campers from 3 pm to 5 pm. Extended care is not available for the half-day Li’l Sailors Program. The fee is $20/hour/child. If you know in advance that you will need extended care, please pay the Administrator at the morning drop-off. If something unexpected arises, please call 410-267-7205 as soon as you know.

7. Is extended care included for the children of adult sailing students?

For parents/guardians who are taking an adult sailing course and whose children are taking a KidShip course, extended care is offered free of charge until the adult sailing course ends.

8. What is the lifejacket policy for campers?

KidShippers wear PFDs (life jackets) at all times on or around the water. KidShip will provide PFDs, but if your child has his/her own PFD that is USCG approved, comfortable, and fits properly, please feel free to have them wear it. Just make sure it has their name on it!

9. Does my child need to know how to swim?

Children are not required to be proficient swimmers. Full-day campers will participate in a “swim test” on the first day which tests their ability to swim while wearing a PFD.

10. Do the campers sail if it rains?

KidShip sails in rainy weather (unless notified), so be prepared with windbreakers, raincoats, etc. KidShip will not sail in hazardous conditions.

11. What clothes should my child wear to camp?

Shorts, t-shirts, and bathing suits should be worn. It is recommended you pack an extra set of dry clothes just in case the weather is inclement or they just get wet by the end of the day.

12. What type of shoes does my child need?

Closed-toe, soft-soled shoes must be worn at all times on or around the water, so please send your child in shoes that can get wet. Most water shoes or sneakers are great! We love Crocs and Keen footwear! Sandals and flip-flops are not allowed.

13. What other items should my child pack for a week of sailing camp?

Please bring a water bottle (preferably reusable). Water is available for refills. Bring beach towels for lunch break beach activities and for drying off after sailing. Sunblock, hats, sunglasses with straps, and lip balm are important for sailors due to the effects of sun, wind, and glare on the water.

14. Is my child expected to bring a water blaster to camp?

Campers participate in “Water Wars,” an epic water throwdown on Wednesday. Campers are encouraged to bring a personal water blaster.

15. Does KidShip offer a lunch program?

KidShip Sailing Camp does not offer a lunch program. Full-day campers are required to bring a lunch each day, excluding Wednesday. For full-day campers, we provide pizza on Wednesday and ice cream on Friday. Half-day campers do not have a lunch break, however, we do recommend packing a snack each day.

16. What forms are required to complete my child's registration at KidShip sailing camp?

Health History Form – Maryland requires a Health History Form for each KidShip student. Please note that a new form must be completed for each student each year. If your child attended KidShip last year, a new form is still required. The health history form can be found here.

Immunization Record – Please obtain a copy of your child’s current immunization record from your child’s doctor if required. (required for all students who are NOT registered in a Maryland school)

Medication Authorization Form – If your child requires medication including EpiPens they must have a medication authorization form signed by their doctor along with the medication in its packaging

17. What should I do if my child takes daily medication?

Students should take medication prior to coming to camp. By regulation, our staff is not authorized to administer medication, and campers are not permitted to carry or administer their own medication.

18. What is the pet policy on the property?

Dogs are only allowed on the property during drop-off and pick-up. All pets must be on a leash and attended to at all times. Guests must maintain control of and clean up after their pets. Pets are not allowed on the docks, in the classrooms, or on any vessels. Pets may be excluded from the property at will.
