Sunday Night Race 4-14
A beautiful evening with fairly strong breezes out of the South with gusts around 18 knots. The race committee decided to send the boats on a short beat up to 2″E”, round Horn Point to port and then up the Severn River, turning around through the center span of the Naval Academy bridge with a finish somewhere between Horn Point and the school. The boats all started with reefs, though some shook the reef on the run down to the bridge. It was a beat back to Horn Point and it very important to vang sheet, play the main in the puffs and to stay on the lifted tack. With the wind up, tacks were not that costly, so staying lifted was key.
